The axe has a triangular eye, now filled with corrosion, a flat butt and a triangular projecting shoulder (wing) on the lower edge of the poll on one side. There was probably a similar projection on the other face, now missing, these would have flanked the handle as it came out of the eye, reinforcing this joint. The sides of the poll are slightly convex and then it straightens into the cheek, narrowing evenly from the end of the eye to the blade. The cheek is similar in height to the poll.

Part of the side of a cast copper alloy rectangular double loop buckle dating to c.1350-1500. 90% of both loops and the strap bar as well as the upper edge and pin are missing. The buckle frame had two rectangular loops. It has a plain, integral central strap bar with an integral projecting rectangle loop at the remaining end, below the lower edge of the buckle frame; this loop is the only part which survives complete. The lower edge and strap bar appear thicker that the projecting loop, but this may be a result of wear and corrosion. The remainder of the buckle is 16.7mm long, 14.2mm…

Medieval copper-alloy probably French jetton, a variant of the shield of France modern / triple stranded cross fleuretty type. nonsense legend, c. AD 1418-1437. Not paralleled in Mitchiner although closest to no. 524 (1988:192).
The reverse design is unusual with unusually short arms to the cross, only a pellet in the centre and very thick triple cross bars at the end of each cross arm. The cross is also mostly within an inner circle rather than the usual quartelobe, this feature sugegsts it is of the very late French issues or another contemporary issuer (cf Mitchiner 1988:192).…
