These coins were illegally circulated in England often entering the country from Galley Wharf on the River Thames in London and were called 'Galley halfpence'.

Copper alloy buckle frame dating from the post-medieval period, c. AD1620-80. Trapezoidal double looped buckle with a pointed triangular outer edge flanked by knops and a knop at the end of its strap bar (cf Whitehead 1996 no. 520). An incised line follows the inside of the outer edge, and is intersected by another which crosses it at right angles, perhaps marking a pin rest. A grey tint may suggest the buckle was tinned overall. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1620-1680.
