An incomplete cast copper-alloy Medieval spout from a ewer dating c. AD 1300-1500. The spout is cylindrically crescentic in shape with a concave curve to fit against the body of the vessel and has a hollow interior. Part way along the outer edge is the lower section of a broken flat-sectioned openwork bridge that would have been pierced with a trefoil. This would have connected the upper part of the spout to the neck of the vessel. The surface of the spout is heavily pitted and very worn, with mottled mid green and light brown patination. The spout measures 63mm and is 19mm …

A Scottish groat of James V dating from c. AD1526-39. Type III with trefoil stops; minted at Edinburgh. No subdivision possible. Obv: IACOBVS [5 DEI GRA REX SCOT]ORV Rev: OPPI/DV[ E/DINB/VRGI]. NOTE: This find is of importance because these coins are not normally found in English contexts. At that time the groat was worth 1s 6d Scots and had a silver content of 0.833g compared to the English groat which was 0.925g (Carl Savage, PhD student University of York/National Museum Scotland).

A medieval copper-alloy 'Dolphin' jetton, struck in south-eastern France in the late 14th to early 15th century (see Mitchiner 1988: 182 - 184). Obverse: [lis]AVE*mARIA*GRAC[..], Dolphin Reverse: cross formed of keys and lis According to Mitchiner (ibid: 182), 'The dolphin ('dauphin') was [the] traditional badge of the Counts of Alban, Dauphins of Viennois'. The author's suggested date range for such jettons is c. 1373 - c. 1415. This worn example would appear to be a variant on Mitchiner nos. 488 - 492, its reverse cross not being the usual triple-strand…

Copper alloy cruciform harness pendant dating from the medieval period, probably c. 13th-14th century AD. The object survives intact and in fair condition except for the suspension loop which would have extended outwards from one of the arms. The object is a cruciform mount/pendant with four arms and a flat, square centre. The arms terminate in circular mouldings and are plain whilst the central block was decorated with incised or moulded cross-hatching. The artefact may have been a harness pendant in its own right, similar to WAW-F47A11 or else, the centre of harness pendant which…

Copper-alloy finger ring, probably dating from the medieval period, that is c. 12th-15th century AD. The finger ring is bent but complete, with a rough surface and olive-brown patina. It may have had flattened shoulders and a rectangular bezel. It probably bore incised decoration but the bezel is too worn and the motif can no longer be identified. The shape of the bezel suggests that the ring was of medieval date.

A castccopper-alloy swivel fitting dating from the medieval period, that is c. 11th-15th century. The artefact consists of at least four conjoined elements. At the centre of the swivel fitting is a large, presumably mostly hollow copper-alloy sphere. It has two large opposing perforations/hole into which, on each side, a smaller rivet or shank has been inserted. These "block-like" fittings cannot be pulled out; presumably, their terminals inside the sphere had been flatted or enlarged to keep the fitting in place. However, they are loose fitting enough to be able to turn around 360…

One half of a medieval cast copper alloy two-piece swivel fitting dating from c. AD1100-c. 1500. This is one half of the swivel: overall, it consists of a ring- or flat D-shaped frame with sub-triangular sides which gradually expand towards each end, where they terminate in a pair of zoomorphic beasts heads flanking a central flat ring which is set perpendicular to the main ring. The muzzles of the beasts are long with the upper jaw running from the brow ridge to the lip and their mouths open, probably clasping the central block. The design is not as well executed as on comparative…
