Object type: LITHIC IMPLEMENT
Broad period: MESOLITHIC
County: Cheshire East
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A bi-polar core from Boulder Clay deposited in the last Ice Age, probably worked on an anvil, as indicated by the deep negative scar on the other side and the damage at each end of the piece. Late Mesolithic (between 7400-4000 BC) and similar to material, according to Ron Cowell of the Museum of Liverpool, from sites east of Liverpool or on the Wirral. Possibly the remnants of a larger pebble used to fashion smaller blades by striking, in this case on an anvil.

A primary flake of flint with at least 45% of dorsal surface covered in cortex. Distinctive ripples run across the ventral. There appears to be no reuse or reworking of the flake. The material itself is semi transparent, with a ruddy-brown tinge that deepens as the thickness increases.

Object type: LITHIC IMPLEMENT
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Nottinghamshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Lithic implement, probably local. The object is a flint flake. It is sub-oval in plan and has not been very carefully knapped. It would probably have been placed on a flattish stone and hit with a pebble. There is possible evidence of use along the thinner edge for cutting however due to the character of the flint, slightly rolled and weathered, it is uncertain. It is likely to date from the mid Bronze Age, (2000-1400BC).

Object type: LITHIC IMPLEMENT
Broad period: BRONZE AGE
County: Nottinghamshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
Lithic implement probably dating to the early Bronze Age, (2150-1500BC). The object is sub-oval in plan. The outer edge has been retouched. The flint is probably local from gravels resulting in a slightly weathered surface. The thinner edge has been used as a tool for cutting. The object does not conform to a dateable type however is likely to date to the early Bronze Age. It is mottled white in colour.

A water-worn pebble of local flint. The object is oval in plan and D-shaped in cross-section. The object appears to have been deliberately struck off the original pebble as can be seen from a small bulb of percussion with ripples under it. The rounded edge has fine damage around it as if it could have been used for cutting or scraping. The damage could have happened naturally however it is more likely that it occurred through use as the flint was deliberately struck off the pebble for use as an implement. The object is difficult to date as it doesn't fall easily into a particular …

Lithic implement, used for cutting or scraping. It is an irregular semi-circle with a protruding 'tang' at one end. Some retouching can be seen along some of the edges. It is made from a dark grey flint which has some white/cream patches in. Most likely from the Bronze Age period although it is hard to date single flint pieces when they are found out of context. Ron Cowell saw an image of this find and comments 'It could be that this is a natural fractured pebble that is fortuitously shaped, which has been picked up and lightly retouched around the curved edge to provide a s…

Flint flake- possibly used as a type of saw/knife along one edge. It is a light orange/brown colour with white flecks. In plan it is sub-rectangular. In cross section it is triangular. The right hand side long edge has some wear along, most likely from use. One face has 3 flakes taken from it vertically giving the flake it's triangular cross section. It is very hard to date a single piece of flint on it's own but it is probably Neolithic/Bronze Age in date.
