Lead alloy cloth seal of the Commonwealth dating from AD1657. It is a four-part or four-disc cloth seal with the following imagery: Blank // plain cross on ornate saltire // cockerel on bow-like base, 5 7 to sides // blank. Rod Blunt (via Stuart Elton), says: "The impression depicting a cock is unlikely to be from an official stamp of the Commonwealth, particularly as it had banned cock-fighting. The presence of a bow below the cock suggests that the device might be a rebus for the name 'Bowcock'. [The reverse can be described as showing...] a plain cross with a foliate ornament …

Object type: FINGER RING
Broad period: ROMAN
County: Essex
Workflow stage: Published Find published
Fragment of a copper alloy Roman finger ring, dating to the 3rd century AD. Henig type VIII. The hoop would have been round and tapered away from the bezel. The raised, circular bezel survives with a possible cross design on top. However, due to wear it is difficult to see the design clearly. This class of ring dates to the 3rd century AD. The object is 10.36 mm in diameter and weighs 1.22g.

A modern General Post Office lead bag seal, probably 19th Century in date. One side is decorated with two oval shields, with ringed borders tied together at the top with ribbons. One shield features a spread eagle dragon, the other shield features two dolphins. There is an 'XX' in the top section above the dolphins. The other side of the seal is illegible. A similar example has suggested a GPO Crown over POST on this side of the seal (cf. http://ourpasthistory.com/Gallerya/main.php?g2_itemId=84909 ).
