Late Bronze Age bronze socketed axe of South Wales (Stogursey) Type, of Ewart Park Metalworking Industry, dating to Needham's Period 7 (c. 950 - 750BC).
The axe is fragmentary and distorted, represented by a mouth fragment, comprising part of one face and the looped side (with a surviving length of 44.1mm and a weight of 62.7g). The mouth (with a distorted width of 56.4mm and a surviving depth of 26mm) is flat topped (6.4mm - 9.4mm wide) and two casting runner stubs are evident on the surviving side and face. A silver brooch, fashioned from a groat (fourpenny piece) of King Edward I, 1272-1307.
The coin brooch takes the form of a disc brooch, diameter 29mm. On the reverse, the side visible when worn, are five collets - one central, the others evenly spaced round the rim, at 12 o'clock, etc, as viewed, in varying states of preservation; these presumably originally held glass, enamel or coloured stones, though none survives and no remains of adhesive material have been detected. Gold Angel of Henry VII, London mint, type II (no mint-mark), c. 1488-9; North (1991), no.1695.
Gold coin of 23 ct 3½ grains (0.995 fine) weighing 80 grains and current for 6s 8d, was introduced by Edward IV in 1465. Early angels depicted St Michael as a feathered being, as on this specimen. The obverse die of this coin was damaged, apparently somewhat worn and rusty when the coin was struck.

The find comprises one gold and fourteen silver medieval English coins, of the reigns of Edward III (1), Henry VI (12) and two uncertain pennies. Metal content English silver coins of the 14th-15th centuries are typically of silver of high fineness, in excess of 90% Ag by weight. The gold standard is virtually pure precious metal (23ct 3½gr, or 99.5%). Discussion The fifteen coins appear to form a single group, lost or deposited in the middle of the fifteenth century.
