(extract from report by Edward Besly, NMGW)
The finding of a scattered hoard of Romano-British coins was reported through the Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS Cymru) to Amgueddfa Cymru in January 2014. Following a site visit on 26 March 2014, the coins were transferred to National Museum Cardiff for a report to H.M. Coroner as potential Treasure. Two coins of similar type had previously been reported from the spot through PAS Cymru (in 2012-13) and these were re-submitted for consideration as potential treasure in the light of the subsequent discovery. One further coin subsequently…

Description of Find
Two silver groats (4d) of Queen Mary of England (1553-4), struck in London; weights 2.01g and 1.89g. The coins are only slightly worn and each has been folded twice, given a shallow ‘z’-shaped profile. The coins were found in fairly close proximity (18 inches apart). No associated objects were reported.
Treasure Act considerations
As two or more silver (>10% Ag) coins over 300 years old when found, the two Mary groats qualify as Treasure if they were originally associated in the ground. Groats of Mary are not rare finds, but usually singly and i…

Description of find
A fused stack of fifteen Roman copper-alloy coins. Where the stack has fragmented, partial identifications are possible. The coins include issues around A.D. 348-50 (Constans or Constantius II) and of the usurping emperors Magnentius and Decentius (in Gaul, 350-3), some of whose issues bear a prominent Chi-Rho symbol in their designs.
No associated finds were reported.
The coins comprise alloys of copper, with no significant precious-metal content. However, the number found, clearly in association, suggests that the coins form treasure.
