The find comprises one gold and fourteen silver medieval English coins, of the reigns of Edward III (1), Henry VI (12) and two uncertain pennies. Metal content English silver coins of the 14th-15th centuries are typically of silver of high fineness, in excess of 90% Ag by weight. The gold standard is virtually pure precious metal (23ct 3½gr, or 99.5%). Discussion The fifteen coins appear to form a single group, lost or deposited in the middle of the fifteenth century. (extract from report by Edward Besly, NMGW) The finding of a scattered hoard of Romano-British coins was reported through the Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS Cymru) to Amgueddfa Cymru in January 2014. Following a site visit on 26 March 2014, the coins were transferred to National Museum Cardiff for a report to H.M. Coroner as potential Treasure.
