A copper-alloy coin weight, probably for a half or quarter noble. This weight is illustrated in 'Lions, ships and angels' (Withers, 1995, p. 20). It was made in Antwerp by an unknown maker (see Withers, p. 60). The weight is rectangular in plan. The obverse bears a circular panel depicting a ship, with a letter 'h' (for 'Henricus') located to the right of the mast. On the reverse is a central hand dividing the letters 'D I'; an inner ring of stars surrounds this central design and, around this, is a second ring, of four large and four small fleurs-de-lys. A Post Medieval cast copper alloy square coin weight for a gold ryal. A ship is depicted on the obverse face, the reverse is blank. The Ryal coin was first issued by Edward IV along with its half and quarter in 1465 at a weight of 120 grains and a value of 10 shillings. Its distinctive design is a king in a ship which has a large rose on the side. In 1553 Mary increased its value to 15 shillings and Elizabeth I also issued a similar coin in her third coinage at the same weight and value. A Roman copper alloy cast bow and fantail brooch (1st-2nd century). The brooch has short wings which form a cylindrical housing for a hinged pin (now lost). The front face of the brooch is decorated with a moulded cast design below the wings from which the fantail extends. The reverse is undecorated, amd a rib extends along the tail to form a sub-triangular catch plate. The brooch has an extensive white metal coating.
