An Early-Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) silver penny of Aethelred II (978-1016). Helmet type (c. 1003-1009; North 775; bmc viii). Minted by Eadric at Thetford. Obverse: +EÐELRED REX ANGL; Bust left in armour and radiate helmet Reverse: +[EADRIC MON ÐEODF]? Long cross voided, each limb terminating in three crescents over square with trefoil at each point There is a feint crack forming across the centre of the coin (from the 3oclock position to its centre) possibly caused where it has bent backwards slightly along a weak point in the metal. Reference: Spink (2010) cf. 1152.

An incomplete Medieval copper-alloy 'lyre-shaped' strap end (1350-1450). The strap was secured within the integral box-like trapezoidal plate and was retained by four rivets, one at each corner of the attachment end. All four rivets are still present and sit flush againat the trapezoidal plates. The back of the trapezoidal box is fitted seperately and has a darker green patina than the rest of the object. A complete copper alloy harness or furniture fitting. The mian disc is 50mm in diameter with a sunken cell around a central boss. The boss has a knop woth central recessed cell at its centre. Two attachment loops each 10mm in diameter make the whole object 68mm long. Its height is 15mm. The reverse is recessed behind the boss. The boss is stamped with several annulets and incomplete annulets to create a crude floral pattern.
