A knapped flint core, probably dating to the Mesolithic period, c. 8300-3500 BC. The core consists of a large flat platform, followed by multiple knapped surfaces covered in vertical removals. One face of the core is entirely covered with cortex; the other surfaces have been knapped completely with at least primary, secondary and some tertiary flakes removed vertically, suggestive of microblade and related microlith size. The flint is of a variagated orange-brown colour with a large degree of dark brown and taupe chert inclusions. The core measures 56.6 mm long, 28.9 mm wide (at platf…

Four pieces of knapped flint, probably all dating to the Mesolithic period(10,000-4300 BC). (1) Large flake of light greyish-white flint, with some natural white chert inclusions and a very small bit of dark brown cortex on one edge; it has a strong bulb of percussion and conchoidal ripples with a break near the bulb, perhaps part of the platform and a further break on the distal edge near to the cortex. It measures 37.17 mm long, 21.24 mm wide (maximum), 6.28 mm thick and weighs 5.35 grams. (2) Unfinished dark grey flint blade with pronounced bulb of percussion and conchoidal …

An incomplete segment of a flint blade, dating to the Mesoilthic period (10,000 to 4300 BC). The remaining portion of the blade consists of the platform and bulb of percussion and part of the tapering blade. The tip of the blade is missing. The blade's shape seems to have been formed from three larger strokes for shaping and then further smaller knapping techniques were used to sharpen the edge. It measures 20.83 mm in length; 16.07 mm in width; and 3.33 mm thick. The blade weighs 1.3 g. The colour of the flint implies that it was not exposed to chalk deposits or surface elements, whi…

Microblade or possibly waste flake. The tertiary blade was struck from a prepared platform and has a bulb of percussion and percussion waves on the ventral face. The dorsal face shows evidence of multiple previous removals and some mis-strikes at the proximal end. The long thin shape ending in a point and sharp edges would have made this piece sutiable for use as a piercer or borer without reworking. There is a small chip two thirds of the way along the left edge of the dorsal face but this could be deliberate, usewear or post deposition damage. It is 30.6mm long, 5.5mm wide and 2.8mm …

Part of a heavily worked core which has had multiple removals. The cortex has all been removed and the core appears to have been small when discarded or broken. Some removals appear to be blades and some, as the core was worked smaller, microliths. There is a small part of the striking platform at the top but the back is an irregular break with several facets suggesting the core shattered. This maybe related to a flaw in the flint at one side. There appear to be some attempts to stike off one of the shattered angles suggesting attempts were made to conserve the core and ustilise as muc…
