Roman earthenware pottery vessel fragment; decorated samian ware bowl fragment, probably from the lower part of a form Dr37 bowl (possibly Dr29). Probably Central Gaulish, possibly Eastern Gaulish. Soft orange fabric with orange slip. Design of two panels divided by a wavy line border with six-petalled flower at the terminal. The right-hand panel possibly contains a limb of a person or animal; the left-hand panel has part of what appears to be an eight-pointed motif, being three diverging cone-shaped arms, two with trefoil terminals and one with a bifoiliate terminal. Medieval cast copper alloy vessel handle loop, complete. Sub-circular loop with convex sides and integral shouldered rivet (length 2.5mm) projecting from the narrower end. The loop is rectangular-sectioned (max width 6mm & thickness 8.3mm). Dark green patina with file marks on both faces (not the side). Length 21.7mm, width 16.7mm, thickness 8.3mm, weight 13.46g. Such loops are found on skillet or other vessel handles with zoomorphic terminals - e.g. see DENO-F05AE6 and DENO-204990.
