Nine fragments of Roman ceramic building material. One is likely to be part of a mainated oxidised mica rich tile, whilst the other eight are fired earth, possibly from daub as all have organic inclusions and a coarse matrix. All nine pieces are dated by their association with a substantial assemblage of Roman pottery although late medieval and post medieval material has been recovered from the same garden in the past The CBM weighs 90.3grams

Small fragment of a medieval (13th or 15th century) decorated floor tile. The fragment is irregular in plan and one small area of the original edges survives - originally it would have been a square or rectangular tile. The fabric of the tile is relatively hard with a number of angular and sub-angular quartz, iron stone and grit inclusions. The fabric is also mica rich. The fabric colour is an oxidised orange purple throughout. The upper surface of the tile has been decorated with a line impressed design, most probably floral. It is part of a four tile design with a series of quarter …

Eardisland History and Heritage Group Site Code: HLF 07 Site Summary: Finds made during the excavation of two trenches placed across parallel linear cropmarks. The cropmarks are approximately 60m long and 4m apart. The trenches were dug on cultivated land and excavated to the natural sub-strata. Trench A Sector 1 Context 001 - Topsoil Description: Two fragments of possible ceramic building material. Both fragments are relatively robust and may possibly come from some type of structure, the shapes of the fired pieces making it likely that they are from wattle and daub walls (bein…

Approximately 5-10% of the box flue tile is present, consisting of the central front of the tile, with combed detail. It is sub rectangular in plan, and cross section. The front exhibits combed detail formed from four parallel lines in a wavy (S shaped) pattern. A fragment of ceramic building material; possibly fired (burnt) wattle or very coarse tile of uncertain - possible Roman Medieval or Post Medieval date. The ceramic is very heavily abraded with a friable oxidised surface which is powdery to the touch. Due to the size and nature of the fragment, it being mainly un-diagnostic very little can be said. A slight ridge is present along one edge which seems function - possibly a groove on a roof tile. The reverse is uneven hence the suggestion of it being associated with a piece of wattle. The ceramic has small black coloured grit like inclu…
