Four pieces / flakes of tertiary debitage which have been deliberately burnt and used as 'pot boilers' dating from the later Mesolithic and Neolithic periods (4500-2100 BC). The flakes are not well preserved. All the flakes have irregular 'crazed' surfaces which are slightly translucent. The cause of this is most likely to be direct heat and rapid cooling. The most common evidence for this is flint waste and discarded tools being used as 'pot boilers'. As the term suggests this describes a technique common in prehistory for heating water.
