A large stone implement of uncertain date and function, perhaps a maul. The artefact is a broadly sub-rectangular wedge of fine grained late Silurian or Devonian sandstone rock local to the area in which it was found (pers com Daniel Lockett). Approximately 1/3 along the length is a distinct band or groove which has been pecked forming a shallow depression. All of the other surfaces are not worked and are a mid purple brown colour with a well formed surface patina.
