The identification is based on the style of bust - having a short cropped beard and curly hair - possibly suggesting the coin dates to the period of Marcus Aurelius.

A silver imperial denarius of uncertain date - probably c. AD 80-220. The coin is heavily worn and abraded as well as loosing much of its surface (especially on the reverse) due to the nature of the acidic soil in the area. The style of the head suggests an early dat around the period AD 80-120 but the inscription is lost as is most of the reverse face.
