Roman Republican Serrated Denarius of moneyer L. Aurelias Cotta (Crawford 314/1D). The coin was struck in Rome in 105 BC. The coin has also evidence of Brockage: The term Brockage refers to a mis-struck coin. In this example the reverse face of the coin has been over struck with the obverse (which is in reverse and indenteded rather than in relief). This was caused by the coin sticking to the upper part of the die when a second coin was struck. Notes: A very large issue, 287 obverse dies and 359 reverse dies. M. Sergius Silus was a quaestor. The reverse might show his grandfather who was praetor in 197 BC and who fought left-handed after losing his right hand in battle.
