Reverse: Long cross, mullet of six points in each angle, total 24 points, [REX/]SCO/TOR[/VM+] Weight: 0.84gms. Width: 16.28mm. Height: 15.52mm

A heavily clipper silver penny of either Edward IV from his second reign 1471-1483, or Richard III 1483-5 - struck at the mint in York. Type XXI 4. If this is the case then the coin would have been struck under the authority of Archbishop Thomas Rotherham (1480-1500). The inscription has been almost entirely removed and the identification is based solely on the marks by the breast and estimated size and style of the coin. Without an inscription it is hard to tell whether the coin was struck under Edward IV or Richard III reign. North: 1654 / 1686
