A large copper alloy Roman coin - the coin is poorly preserved with an eroded and abraded surface patina. A precise identification cannot be achieved - but it is most likely to be either a dupondius or an As of earlier Roman date - this identification is based on size patina and form.

Copper alloy dupondius or As of Vespasian, AD72. The obverse shows the Emperor facing right, with laurate crown, and reads, IMP CAES VESPASIAN AVG COS IIII. The reverse shows Pax standing facing left, holding an olive branch and caduceus in her left hand, and a patera in her right above an altar. The inscription is illegible - probably should read PAX AVG Diameter 27.2mm, thickness 4.0mm, weight 12.3 grams.
