An incomplete cast copper alloy openwork two-piece 'folded' sword scabbard chape of medieval / late 1tth or 12th century date. The fragment is incomplete and heavily abraded; only a small area of original edge survives. The fragment is broadly rectangular in plan and D shaped in cross section. The front face is decorated with an interlace design which is augmented by areas of drilled openwork. Copper alloy pedestal / pendant seal matrix of medieval date (1250-1400). Originally the die was circular and now is roughly oval in plan due to combination wear through use and abrasion. The reverse rises to form a pendant / suspension loop terminating in a pointed lozenge shape pierced by a drilled quatrefoil. The body of the matrix is a hexagonal pedestal formed from six tapering sides which rise to the mid-point where the loop extends.
