A copper-alloy knotenfibel brooch of Late Iron Age date. Originally, the brooch was made in one piece, but iron wire (now corroded) was added to the spring at some point, probably as a mend. The bow is of lozenge-shaped cross section and has a near-right-angled downward bend at the top end. Immediately below this bend is a baluster moulding, beneath which the bow gradually tapers, towards the foot. On the underside of the lower bow is a broken catchplate with sub-triangular perforation and a rolled outer edge. The top of the bow continues into an integral spring, which has an intern…

Part of a copper-alloy Langton Down brooch, dating from the Late Iron Age to early Roman period. The head comprises a spring casing in the form of an open-ended cylinder. This cylinder is heavily damaged on its underside, revealing the remaining coils of the copper-alloy spring.Damage to this cylinder has exposed several coils of the copper-alloy spring itself. Only the upper part of the bow remains; this takes the form of a D-sectioned arch with no obvious decoration. Patination of the break suggests the loss of the lower bow occurred in antiquity. A Roman copper-alloy plate brooch. The brooch takes the form of a trefoil, its upper surface occupied by a cluster of three circular cells, all of the same size. These cells have damaged rims and are largely empty, but one has adhering traces of a black substance, possibly enamel. All three cells have a circular depression at their centre, surrounded by a series of concentric grooves and ridges which suggest that either the brooch or the former was turned on a lathe. Additionally, the outer ring of each cell bears lightly incised zigzag grooves, which may represent 'keying' for the…
