A silver-gilt finger-ring. The hoop is rectangular in section and plain on the exterior, while the interior has the traces of a maker's mark (now undecipherable). The shoulders are each decorated with seven tiny balls, and more balls trace the outline of the tear-shaped bezel, which is now bent 90 degrees off plan. The setting is damaged and now empty. The silver balls may be an imitation of seed pearls, which were popular decorations in the later 19th century. depth 18.7, w18, hoop height 1.2. 0.51g

A modern gold pendant. The object consists of two gold discs with pressed images, replicating probably (the details have not pressed through clearly) coin obverses (i.e. the bust side only repeated to make two halves) of the emperor Maximian (AD 286-310), with a gold disc between and a beaded rim. Such mouldings in thin gold or silver foil taken from a coin 'host' are often termed clichés and were a technique known in antiquity to produce forgeries as well as a similar technique for 'bracteate' jewellery popular in Barbaricum (beyond the Roman frontier). Although both coins and br…

Non-destructive X-ray fluorescence analysis of the surface indicated an approximate metal composition of 96% silver, 3% copper with trace level impurities. The terminals are soldered to the wire with an alloy containing silver, copper and zinc. The object resembles a miniature torc. It consists of a twisted silver shaft, bent into a U-shape, with a spherical terminal at each end. The ratio of zinc to copper in the solder attaching the terminals would suggest this object is modern. Although it resembles a miniature torc, it is certainly not Iron Age in date. Although this object has a …

A hoard of 9 tokens, believed to be gaming pieces, which are based on the Austrian 1/4 florin dated 1859. These are slightly smaller than the actual silver 1/4 florin and it is thought these are made of aluminium. The reverse image is stamped on both sides of each piece and due to their white metal content are not considered as treasure. The tokens have been cleaned by the Conservator at Verulamium Museum, St Albans. They were probably made by the firm Lauer of Nuremburg in the mid to late 19th century.

A "modern" copper-alloy Falus from Morocco. The obverse shows a six pointed star with a pellet at the centre and a border consisting of several closely-spaced lines. The image on the reverse is unclear but probably includes a religious staff. The Hebrew date (AH) 1271 is given. This places the coin in the reign of Abd-Al-Rahman and equates to the year 1854 AD. The reverse design sits within a double raised border. The coin is slightly bent and worn. It measures 27.9mm diameter by 2.2mm thick and weighs 8.83g.
