A complete half of a Medieval or post-Medieval copper-alloy two-piece swivel fitting (c. 1200-c. 1700). This is the female half of the fitting. The male component may have been a frame of similar shape or possibly a hook for suspension (see YORYM-910FAE). The frame is circular in plan and circular in cross-section except for the bezel-like terminal which is flat at the top and slightly concave on the underside. The terminal is perforated to accommodate the other component and the perforation has a diameter of 4.5mm. On swivel fittings such as these, zoomorphic mouldings are…

An incomplete and corroded post-Medieval copper-alloy component from a hooked sword belt fitting or hanger (c. 1500-c. 1700). The tip of the hook is missing. The fitting is an inverted shield-shaped plate in plan and has a forward projecting hook. The plate is moulded at the front and flat at the rear. The hook is sub-oval in cross-section. The front face has a moulded foliate decoration that is mainly unclear due to corrosion. There are the remains of three iron rivets in the plate, two in the corners of the hook end and one which is centrally placed at the opposite en…

A complete and corroded half of a Medieval copper-alloy two-piece swivel fitting (c. 1100-c. 1500). This half is the 'female' component of the swivel fitting. The frame is very worn and is irregular in cross-section. The shoulders appear to be plain but prior to corrosion they may have been zoomorphic. The pierced terminal that accommodated the male component has a circular hole, c. 2.4mm in diameter. The hole has parallel sides and would have accommodated the missing 'male' section. The surface is drab green. Length: 19.3mm; with: 17.0mm; thickness at terminal: 6.0mm. …
