A Medieval copper-alloy lace chape (c. 1200-c. 1400). The chape is made from sheet copper alloy and folded to form a cylinder which is open at one end. At the terminal end it is partially closed and has a vertical abutting seam throughout its length. Near the open end there is a transverse copper-alloy pin that secured the missing lace. The outer face has a pattern of continuous chevrons. This chape has no patina and is partially covered with copper-alloy corrosion products. Length: 40.3mm; diameter: 6.6mm. Weight: 2.61g.

A complete silver lace chape of Post-Medieval, sixteenth or early seventeenth century date (AD 1500 - AD 1650). The chape is hexagonal in section with an overlapping seam along one face. It tapers slightly from the attachment end to the terminal end. Close to the attachment end there are two small circular holes that accommodated a rivet (now missing). The chape contains organic material, possibly decayed leather. This lace chape was found together with a silver brooch pin of thirteenth or fourteenth century date.
