A complete post-Medieval copper-alloy openwork bridle boss (c. 17th century). The boss is hexagonal in plan, umbonate at the centre and rises to a small nipple at the apex. It has a flat bprder. The central part, the umbo, is concave on the underside. The umbo is composed of a raised eight-pointed star with a nipple at the apex. Between each arm of the star and close to the flat border there is a triangular opening. The upper face of the flat border is decorated with evenly spaced and alternating raised lozenges and scrolls. A complete late Iron Age (possibly) harness fitting in the form of a miniature cheek piece. The object is symmetrical and curvilinear. At the centre a projecting integral loop is bevelled on both sides. The arms are circular in cross-section and their ends are slightly convex. A complete and corroded post-Medieval copper-alloy umbonate mount for harness or possibly furniture (c. 1700-c. 1900). The mount is oval in plan, flat at the edges, largely convex at the front and largely concave at the rear. The front has a central male bust left contained within an oval ridge. An incomplete post-Medieval copper-alloy bridle boss (1700-1900). This boss is circular in plan with a flat rim, partially domed/umbonate in form at the front and rises to a rounded apex. The rear of the umbonate part is hollow. There is a pair of circumferential grooves half way up the dome and also close to periphery of the rim. Three unequally spaced dome-headed copper-alloy rivets penetrate the rim. The rivet heads have a diameter of c. 7.5mm. An incomplete post-Medieval copper-alloy bridle boss (c. 1600-c. 1700). This boss is umbonate in form and is now sub-circular in plan. The centre is domed with a flat border. When complete, the border consisted of evenly spaced pierced lugs but only one now survives complete. At the front, the dome has three incised lines crossing at the centre to form six segments. At the rear the centre is concave with the scar of a spike at the centre. The bridle boss is reddish brown with patches of a greenish buff patina. Length: 27.0mm; width: 23.9mm; thickness: 5.4mm. The front is in the form of a crouched beast in Ringerike-style facing left in profile. It has a long beak or snout and the body encloses an oval opening, 9.5 x 8.3mm. The rear face is plain.
