Object type: JEWELLERY FITTING
Broad period: MODERN
County: Suffolk
Workflow stage: Published Find published
Silver leaf-shaped object made from two crudely-cut silver sheet pieces fitted together, perhaps part of a jewellery ensemble or ear-ring. The lower element made from re-used metal, though The British Museum Department of Coins and Medals do not think this to be a coin re-used. Upper side decorated with swirling lines with small pierced hole perhaps for suspension. The style and facture suggest a recent dating for this object, perhaps Ethnographic. As the find in all probability dates to later than 1707 it falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996.

Silver artefact, round with stamped decoration on the front inlaid with glass paste, mostly missing and filled with earth and corrosion. It is obvious from evidence from the reverse that this was a brooch or a button, and it may have been laid into another larger object originally. Although originally submitted for treasure, the Post-Medieval and Modern curators have looked at it and are clear that the stamped decoration suggests a 19th Century date, and therefore this is not within the scope of the 1996 Treasure Act.

Post-medieval silver button or cufflink element etched on the front with a flowerhead. Shank on the reverse. Diameter 13.8 mm, weight o.72g. Probably a cufflink rather than a button given its size, weight and design, which suggests an early 18th Century date and possibly post 1709. Therefore, in all probability, this item is not Treasure, as defined by the Treasure Act 1996.
