A Post Medieval tin button dating early 18th century. Curator's report: Description: flat disc like button, cast with decoration moulded in relief. On the front a sun's face within twelve rays. On the back in relief maker's mark 'IL' on either side of the missing shank. Discussion: Compare an identical button found on the river Thames foreshore, London. See Brian Read 'Metal buttons c900-1700', Langport 2010, No 480. These are dated possibly late 17th or early 18th century. Dora Thornton, British Museum Dimensions: thickness: 4.36mm; diameter: 17.31mm; weight: 3.05g.
