Each has an oval gold mount or frame which is a reeded strip formed into a loop, with six projecting lugs which would have clipped to the missing part. Each frame has an integral, flat central strip connecting the short sides across the back of the disc. On the reverse of each strip is a hemispherical loop. One frame appears to be the or…

Object type: FERRULE
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: North Yorkshire
Workflow stage: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation
A sheet silver ferrule dating from post 1710. The flattened ferrule is made form a sheet of silver rolled into a tube with butt seam. There is a thickened collar at each end and the tube tapers. It is decorated by being pressed with a border of large flowers at the top, and a main design of a large swag of draped fabric or curtains. In the opinion of Dora Thornton, the fitting is less than 300 years old, so does not need to be declared under the 1996 Treasure Act despite being made of silver.

Post-Medieval silver stud with silver top and copper alloy stem. The top of the surface of the silver stud impressed with two circular rings with a seated fox at the centre. Given the fox perhaps part of dress or equipment used in fox hunting. Dating is difficult though this is definitely post-medieval and probably post-Treasure Due to the nature of the find it can not be securely dated to pre-1710 and as such falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996. One disc from a pair of octagonal silver cufflinks. Only one disc loop survives. The disc is octagonal and is decorated with an octangonal border of concave incised lines and a central flower (rose?). The reverse of the disc is slightly hollow and has an integral central loop. There are no visible hallmarks, but this design of cufflink was popular at the end of the 17th century into the early 18th century. Since the object cannot be securely dated to pre 1700, it does not constitute Treasure under the 1996 Act, though it has been reported to the British Museum Department of Portable A…

Treasure Number: 2010 T77 "Description: Silver shoe buckle. Rectangular, slightly curved. The frame decorated with moulding resembling that in a carved picture frame. Would have had a separate iron spindle which is now missing. On the back, a hallmark with lion passant. The lion passant mark suggests this belt buckle was made in Birmingham, apparently after 1773, which is when that mark came into use there. Therefore this item does not qualify as Treasure. The find dates to later than 1710 and as such falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996. Dr Dora Thornton …
