A gold jewellery fitting of Post-Medieval date, 16th-17th century. Dora Thornton of the British Museum writes: 'The main body of the artefact is made of thin gold wire, each end recurving on itself to create a loop and the form is of a long bodied s-shape. Attached at one of these looped ends are a further two gold wire loops (so forming a chain link). A five pronged circular shape (akin to an opened umbrella) has been threaded through the main body to the other end and has been soldered on at the base of the loop. At the end of each prong is circular opening. This element has bee…

Cast silver medal with decorative scrolled border pierced top and bottom for attachment to clothing. Double-sided: on the obverse a profile bust of Charles I , and with his consort, Henrietta Maria, on the reverse. The portrait types are well-known from Medallic Illustrations, I, p. 357, 223. A silver disc with turned down edge and shank soldered on the reverse, stamped on the front with a flaming heart bisected by two arrows with drops of blood dripping from the heart. Edge broken away in one area. The fragility of the shank may indicate that this is part of a pair of cufflinks rather than a button; although the size suggests a button rather than a cufflink. Both types are regularly reported through the Treasure Act. The design is close to that the two hearts conjoined, often associated with the marriage of Charles II and Catherine of Braganza in 1662.
