One element from a hollow silver cufflink, made from thin and now fragmentary sheet. The front is stamped with a portrait bust apparently of Charles II, crowned, within a beaded border. The separate back has the remains of a maker's mark, possibly a TS in a shaped shield above a star. Given the possible identity of the bust, the object can be tentatively dated to 1660-1685.

A silver disc with turned down edge and shank soldered on the reverse, stamped on the front with a flaming heart bisected by two arrows with drops of blood dripping from the heart. Edge broken away in one area. The fragility of the shank may indicate that this is part of a pair of cufflinks rather than a button; although the size suggests a button rather than a cufflink. Both types are regularly reported through the Treasure Act. The design is close to that the two hearts conjoined, often associated with the marriage of Charles II and Catherine of Braganza in 1662. The same design of …

A Post Medieval - Modern silver cufflink (18th century). The cufflink comprises two octagonal discs with a loop on each reverse and an interconnecting oval link securing the two discs. Each of the discs has a concave reverse and the front surface is decorated with an engraved pattern. The pattern has a central motif of a six pointed star burst of radiating lines within a scalloped border. There is no maker's mark visible on the link. Dora Thornton confirms this is less than 300 years old and so does not fall under the Treasure Act. Dimensions: Diameter of each disc: 9.65mm; length: 20…

A Post Medieval silver cufflink dating to the late 17th century. Curator's report: Post-medieval silver cufflink, round and stamped with paired hearts surmounted by a crown within double rings, on a stippled ground. On the back, flattened bar attachment loop. Part of a set of cufflinks judging by the delicacy of the loop, and a well-know late 17th Century type. As such, due to its age and precious metal content, this object qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996. One disc from a pair of octagonal silver cufflinks. One disc and the joining loop survive. The disc is octagonal and is decorated with an octangonal border of concave incised lines and a central flower (rose?). The reverse of the disc is slightly hollow and has an integral central loop. A bent oval joining loop is attached to the loop on the reverse of this disc. The oval loop is broken at one end. There are no visible hallmarks, but this design of cufflink was popular at the end of the 17th century into the early 18th century. Since the object cannot be securely dated to pre 1700, it…

Post Medieval silver disc probably from a cufflink dating to the late 17th century. Curator's report: Silver disc decorated on one side with thin attachment loop on the other, probably one part of a cufflink. The link is crushed so as to make the decoration illegible apart from the rope border. Period: late 17th century Discussion: The age and precious metal content of this item therefore qualify it as treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996. One half of a pair of post-medieval silver cuff links: a set for one cuff consisting of two elements with soldered loops connected by a rectangular link with rounded ends (18th century AD). Both elements are oval in plan and plano-convex in profile (12.8 by 9.7 by 8.9mm (including loop)). At the centre of the flat lower surface a thick wire loop has been soldered in place. Above and below the loop is a perforation, bevelled as it enters the hollow element. To the sides of the loops is a maker's mark, 'I M' or 'W I', stamped in low relief within a rectangular recess. The link that conn…

Solid cast silver sleeve button or cufflink, comprising two discs held by the central shank, the uppermost disc stamped with two hearts beneath a single crown. The hearts are on a speckled background and just touch each other. The crowned hearts are a device associated with the marriage of Charles II and Catherine of Braganza in 1662. A similar button was found in Virginia, USA in the 1960s and published in Noel Hume 1969, fig.22. This object was found in February 2001 and has been acquired by the British Museum, acquisition number: 2002,0711.1

A gold cufflink, one, of a pair of cufflinks, of eighteenth or nineteenth century date, AD 1750 - 1900. The frames of both discs or elements and the linking strip survive. Each disc was oval and made of a separate material which no longer survives. Each has an oval gold mount or frame which is a reeded strip formed into a loop, with six projecting lugs which would have clipped to the missing part. Each frame has an integral, flat central strip connecting the short sides across the back of the disc. On the reverse of each strip is a hemispherical loop. One frame appears to be the or…
