Two silver hollow hemispherical elements, each with a central hole. Each side is incised with a leaf or floral design which continues from one side to the other, and the pieces fit together to show how they were originally joined to form a hemisphere pierced at either side. The function of this object is not clear. Possibly the remains of a button, in which the loop, now missing, had a shank which joined both elements with a knop at the end. A Post Medieval tin button dating early 18th century. Curator's report: Description: flat disc like button, cast with decoration moulded in relief. On the front a sun's face within twelve rays. On the back in relief maker's mark 'IL' on either side of the missing shank. Discussion: Compare an identical button found on the river Thames foreshore, London. See Brian Read 'Metal buttons c900-1700', Langport 2010, No 480. These are dated possibly late 17th or early 18th century. Post-medieval silver button or cufflink element etched on the front with a flowerhead. Shank on the reverse. Diameter 13.8 mm, weight o.72g. Probably a cufflink rather than a button given its size, weight and design, which suggests an early 18th Century date and possibly post 1709. Small gold button in the shape of a flowerhead, perhaps a daisy, with solid centre and petals forming shallow compartments filled with a composition, perhaps glass inlay, some of which is now missing.
