Circular sleeve button made from thin silver sheet, down-turned border, the top stamped with device of two conjoined hearts surmounted by a crown on a stippled ground. Attachment loop at centre of reverse.
Diam: 14mm.
The device may commemorate the marriage of Catherine of Braganza and Charles II of England in 1662. Thin silver button with shank on reverse. On the front, two profiles of a man and woman, one superimposed upon the other, the front one crowned, referring to a married royal couple. The profile and facture suggest a later 17th C date in comparison with the buttons with two crowned hearts, thought to refer to the marriage of Charles II and Catherine of Braganza: Treasure Annual Report 2003, no. 224 from the Eye area, Suffolk.
