Report on post-medieval silver-gilt dress fitting
Circular dress fitting with pinked backplate and solid hemispherical centre, decorated with applied filigree circles and knops. On the back, soldering indicates location of original recurving hook.
The shape, facture and ornament accords well with the hemispherical heads of Tudor dress pins, frequently reported through the Treasure Act. Post-Medieval silver dress-fitting
Silver-gilt fitting with rectangular backplate with scalloped edge, with cut-out rectangular hole at lower end and projecting pierced flap at upper end, for attachment. Soldered onto the front is a thin layer of sheet with embossed circular designs arranged in a groups of three vertically, divided by rope-twist panels. The circles decorated with applied filigree ornament and small bosses. Front gilded.
