Silver spoon stem, broken just above bowl and at terminal. Heavy stem of hexagonal section, punched on one side above bowl with three marks; possibly a Gothic B in a shield, an R in a shield, and another illegible mark. The crudeness and lack of London marks of Leopard's head crowned and lion passant indicate that this spoon is of provincial workmanship. Probably 17th century. As such, due to its age and precious metal content, this object qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996 (Dr Dora Thornton, Curator of Renaissance Collections, The British Museum).
