Object type: HOOKED TAG
Broad period: POST MEDIEVAL
County: Northamptonshire
Workflow stage: Published Find published
A heavy silver dress fitting, comprising openwork trefoil head made of heavy silver wire with flower head, gilt, soldered at centre; on the back, remains of silver wire (broken) soldered to centre. No sign of rectangular bar attachment, but this appears to be an early kind of dress fitting which can be compared with two others so far reported through the Treasure Act: see TAR 2005-6 nos. 695-6. As such, due to its age and precious metal content, this object qualifies as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996. Dr Dora Thornton, The British Museum

A silver disc with turned down edge and shank soldered on the reverse, stamped on the front with a flaming heart bisected by two arrows with drops of blood dripping from the heart. Edge broken away in one area. The fragility of the shank may indicate that this is part of a pair of cufflinks rather than a button; although the size suggests a button rather than a cufflink. Both types are regularly reported through the Treasure Act. The design is close to that the two hearts conjoined, often associated with the marriage of Charles II and Catherine of Braganza in 1662. The same design of …
