Treasure case 2009 T518: Declared not Treasure Description: Gold spherical finial, centrally pierced for attachment to a pin, decorated with large gold wire circlets each containing a glass/paste cabochon, some of these now missing. Probably from a hat pin or dress pin. Facture indicates a 19th or even early 20th Century date. Discussion: The find dates to later than 1708 and as such falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996. Dora Thornton British Museum Dimensions 21.06mm including 'gems', 18.3mm excluding, hole for pin 2.5mm, 6.26 grams.

Silver leaf-shaped object made from two crudely-cut silver sheet pieces fitted together, perhaps part of a jewellery ensemble or ear-ring. The lower element made from re-used metal, though The British Museum Department of Coins and Medals do not think this to be a coin re-used. Upper side decorated with swirling lines with small pierced hole perhaps for suspension. The style and facture suggest a recent dating for this object, perhaps Ethnographic. As the find in all probability dates to later than 1707 it falls outside the provisions of the Treasure Act 1996.

18th-20th century curved decorative fragment possibly from a brooch.A curved, decorative fragment, confirmed as not Roman by a Romano-British specialist; its exact function unclear, but possibly part of a brooch. Though Renaissance in ornament-style, it appears to be a modern cast, and thus dateable post-1706. As such, this object does not qualify as Treasure under the stipulations of the Treasure Act 1996.

2007 T450 The British Museum Curator's report describes the object as: "Small decorative stud, probably part of a drop-style earring imitating Roman examples. A circular convex rosette has a central protruding knop and is surrounded by a flat circular strip. A border surrounds this and has been marked with indents to give the appearance of beaded wire. The piece is surmounted by three small flattened knops, each with a similar border as the main section. This is typical of 19th-century archaeological jewellery and is therefore not Treasure. N. Silver lozenge-shaped bead, hollow, with integral suspension loop and ring; hole at other end. Decorated with applied filigree circles and loops. Though the decoration is reminiscent of that found on 16th Century dress pins reported through the Treasure Act, this object seems to me to be machine-made and consequently much later in date. The form suggests a 19th Century date and my guess is that this is part of an ear-ring of relatively recent manufacture. It does not therefore come under the 1996 Treasure Act (Dr Dora Thornton, Curator of Renaissance Collections, The British Museum).

A Modern silver gilt mount or strap end (post AD1706). The mount is hollow and rectangular in shape, on one surface a decorative plate has been soldered. This plate has a semicircular projection at one end and an equivalent sized and shaped recess from the opposing edge. The decoration on the front plate has been pressed through from the reverse so that it is raised and it depicts a floral pattern. The front plate has also been gilded.
