A copper-alloy sestertius of Crispina, wife of Commodus (AD 177-192), dating to the period c. AD 178-188 (Reece Period 9). Reverse type SALVS S C, Salus seated left, feeding snake at altar. Mint of Rome. RIC III, p. 442, no. 672a. Crispina’s coinage was traditionally dated to c. AD 178-182, but more recent research suggests that she was probably not exiled to Capri until AD 188. Therefore, we date her coins to c.
