Medieval or post Medieval iron adze, 70mm long, 30mm wide and 25mm thick. The object is in fair condition and weighs 199grams. The object consists of a rectangular head which has a hole through its centre. It has a blade which emerges from one side and tapers outwards, thining to form a wide blade. The object is difficult to date, but its good preservation could suggest its towards the more recent date.

Early medieval iron adze? Length: 109 mm, width: 43 mm, thickness: 15 mm, weight: 161grams. The object is rectangular in form and cross section and consists of a flat ended blade like section, which tapers in width from 43 to 21mm, where it forms a rectangular cross sectioned shaft. This has one face which is rounded to accomodate a circular hole through its centre. Its possibly an adze or a wide bladed chisel?
The objects function is unknown but it was found as part of an assemblage including a possible hammer head LEIC-FF95BA, a bill? LEIC-FFA643 and a possible blade? LEIC-FF8999…

Possible Roman iron object, 102mm in length, 32mm wide and 7mm thick with a weight of 23.47grams. The object is T shaped in form and rectangular in cross section. It has two short right angled projections at one end which are seperated by a semi-circlular depression on the outer surface, which continues down the front as a concave shallow recess for 20-30mm. The object is possibly a T-shaped clamp which would have been used in the fixing of a variety of architectural elements, especially box flue-tiles. See NMS-8225A8 Cf. Manning 1985, 131-2, R70-2.

Early Medieval or Medieval iron axe head, 155mm long, 45mm wide at the butt and 55mm high. The object is in fair condition and weighs 736grams. The axe consists of a rectangular shaped butt which has a rectangular shaped recess for a shaft. Each side of the butt has rounded upper and lower edges, giving it a sub circular form from the side. The blade is narrow and widens out towards its tip, flaring downwards on its lower edge. When viewed from above the axe blade appears to be aligned slightly towards the left, though this may be incidental.

Iron axe head, 245mm long, 96mm wide, 59mm thick and weighing 1.5kg. The axe has a triangular shaft fixing? from which emerges a flared triangular blade. There is a parallell for this form in Manning ?? which is a roman carpenters axe and therefore quite a rare find.

Modern iron? and gold badge or plaque 35mm long, 25mm wide and 1mm thick. The badge commemorates the pageant of Leicester, held in 1932 and shows people marching in historical costume. The pageant was intended to show the history of the area from AD50 until the opening of Abbey Park in 1882.

Undated Iron bladed object, 118mm long, 53mm wide and 9mm thick with a weight of 80.56grams. The object is L shaped in form and rectangular in cross section. It has a sub triangular shaped 'blade' which appears incomplete, This measures 18mm by 16mm and curves into a rectangular sectioned straight shaft which tapers very gently in width to a curved projecting 'prong' which is 9mm long, 6mm wide and 4mm thick at the tip. This is curved to one side, when viewed from its longest side, and may be to accomodate a handle?

Early medieval copper alloy/iron brooch fragment?, 18mm long, 17mm wide 4mm thick. It is in fair condition with a weight of 2.37grams. The object material resembles iron and where its damaged its structure does look like iron, but it has traces of copper corrosion suggesting it may have copper alloy core? Medieval or Post medieval iron buckle, 39mm in length, 20mm wide and 4mm thick with a weight of 1.9grams.
The buckle has a D shaped frame with a circular cross section. It has a central bar containing a pin and a triangular plate folded onto the bar, which has a circular loop at its apex.
The objects form could give it a medieval date but its iron construction and condition suggest a later post medieval one.

Roman, iron fragments, possibly casting waste and waste meterial?
The large piece is an irregular shaped lump, with no signs of working. 72mm long, 47mm wide and 29mm thhick with a weight of 185grams.
The smaller piece has a rectangular section and form with a flat surface with slightly curved edges, creating a hollow underside.
53mm long, 34mm wide and 7mm thick with a weight of 40.97grams.
The objects were found in the same place as a probable Roman knife LEIC-452D16 and a Roman nail LEIC-4576AD, which could imply waste material gathered for recycling.

Medieval to post medieval? iron hammer head, 106mm in length, 23mm wide and 18mm thick with a weight of 158g.
The object is sub rectangular in form and rectangular in cross section. It has an oval hole, c.20mm long, for its shaft just to one side of the centre and the corresponding outer edge has a slightly projecting, rounded profile. To the right of this (as shown) the object tapers to a point with one long edge remaining straight. The other side is rectangular in cross section and terminates with a slightly rounded 'collar' around its flat end.

Early medieval iron object , possibly a hammer head(?) Length: 56 mm, width: 34 mm, thickness: 31 mm, weight: 248grams.
The object is roughly rectangular in form and cross section and one surface has a circular projection, c10mm high. The object has been x-rayed and was inpenetrable. The radiographer suggested it may be due to a lead core?
The objects function is unknown but it was found as part of an assemblage including an adze LEIC-FFB304 and a bill? LEIC-FFA643 and a blade LEIC-FF8999.
These in turn were found in close proximity to an early medieval iron shield boss LEIC-FF…

Medieval iron horseshoe, 125mm long, 104mm wide and 9mm deep. The object is in a poor condition with a lot of corrosion but it is intact. It weighs 278 grams and is crescentic in form, with a wide central section which tapers to a point. It has at least four nails still attached to it. These are square in form and 10mm wide.

Medieval to post medieval iron horseshoe, 103mm in length, 30mm wide and 7mm thick with a weight of 174grams.
The object is U shaped with a rectangular cross section. It is formed of a wide flat sheet with a V shaped central hole. It is incomplete missing one end, but the intact end is sub triangular in form and along its outer curved side are the traces of four rectangular nail holes. The object dates to 1250-1600. It is of Clark Type 4 (Clark, 2004, The Medieval Horse and its Equipment).

Medieval iron horseshoe fragment, 91mm long and 20mm wide with a weight of 54g.
The fragment represents just under half a shoe, has a rectangular cross section and a curved tapering form. It has one inner flat edge and the outer edge is 'lobate' with rounded projections. These allow for oval shaped recesses with rectangular holes to accommodate the nails. There are three such holes in the fragment, two of which still contain the rectangular cross sectioned nails. The fragment terminates with a narrow rectangular cross sectioned end which is folded over itself.
