Iron age to Roman copper alloy votive axe, 15mm long, 9mm wid eand 5mm thick with a weight of 2.62grams. The object is rectangular in form and oval in cross section, with rounded long edges. It has a flat oval butt end around which sits a protruding rounded collar. Below this the blade curves slightly downwards at at the concave edge there is a circular hole butting up to the collar and causing the edge to project outwards slightly. A varied selection of late iron age and Roman pottery was recovered by fieldwalking from the Hallaton Villa site. Finds included a very large shelly tegula tile, possible imbrex and other building material. Pottery included a Samian cup base (see leic-5F82D4), Nene Valley colour coat, a mancetter Hartshill Mortarium, oxidised colour coats, greyware, shelly wares and grog tempered wares, including iron age material.

A fragment of a Late Iron Age to Early Roman copper-alloy beaded torc. It is 104mm long, 15-17mm wide and 9-15mm thick. The object would have made up the decorated part of the torc and consists of two flat oblong terminals decorated on one side with two incised lines. The beading consists of two large oval beads 17mm long and 15mm wide and decorated with grooves running either side of their widest part. On either side are four more smaller beads with the same decoration.

Iron age copper alloy sword fitting? 50mm long and 31mm wide, with a weight of 32.3 grams. The object is an open oval in form but is slightly squashed. Its inner surface has a square sectioned rib which runs around the internal surface but is slightly worn away at one end and almost completely at the other. The outside of the piece appears to be covered in gold leaf and has been punched with large V shapes - similar to a cosmetic mortar from the same site. The object appears to be part of a sword or dagger fitting given its shape.

This is probably a strap union or junction. These are usually Roman in date but the style of this makes it more likely to be Iron Age (pers comm Dr J. D. Hill). Recorded at the Hidden Treasures roadshow in Market Harborough. A similar object has been recorded on the database at SF-3AB401.

Late Iron age copper alloy sword scabbard fitting, 54mm in length, 17mm wide and 5mm thick with a weight of 21.71grams. The object is a scabbard mouth fitting which would sit at the upper edge of the scabbard and strengthen the opening. It consists of a rectangular cross sectioned ovoid frame which has a plain triangular projection in the centre of each side. These would sit facing downwards. The other surface, pointing upwards, has a tapering depression at each end of the ovoid opening, which would help to guide a sword blade into the opening. This example is very similar to YORYM…

Iron age? copper alloy ring or bead, 24mm in diameter and 8mm thick. It is in fair condition, having some damage to edges with a brown patina and weighs 15.35 grams. The object has been finely cast and is 'doughnut' shaped with a central circular hole. The outer edge of the object has a ridge running around its circumference and there appears to be a further ridge in the centre of each side. From this the surface dips down to the central hole, giving it a sub rhomboid section.

Late Iron age/early Roman flat quern fragment, 146mm long, 97mm wide and 28mm thick. The quern has a grey/brown patina and is made from a volcanic honeycomb rock. The fragment has an even thickness and appears to be part of the base stone. It has clear grooves worn into one surface.
