An incomplete copper alloy Late Iron Age to early Roman Colchester brooch. The head has signs of transverse grooving on the outer face. To the rear are two loops, one still containing part of the chord. The rest of the spring and pin are missing. The bow tapers to a point and the remains of a triangular catchplate survive to the reverse.
Several similar examples are illustrated by Bayley and Butcher (2004, p.63, 54ff), who suggest that this type was first manufactured prior to the Roman conquest of Britain, but continued in use into the middle years of the 1st century AD (ibid., 14…

A copper-alloy Roman Nauheim derivative brooch. The head, formed from wire looped into a coil, is now distorted. The bow is narrow, slightly curved and expands towards the foot. The foot is missing, but traces of the catchplate suggest that this would have extended down at a right-angle to the bow. Hull Type 11B. Pre-Conquest to early post-Conquest date.

Late Iron Age to early Roman copper alloy Langton Down brooch fragment. Only the head and the corroded upper part of the bow survive. The head is cylindrical in form and damaged in several places. The bow is curved at the top where it joins the head and is decorated with longitudinal grooves. Length: 15.0mm, width: 17.0mm, thickness: 7.0mm, weight 3.18g
