Roman copper alloy brooch of Colchester derivative Polden Hill (Mackreth Group 4, flat wing ends), Mackreth 2011, 4.a-4.b, 4c, Plate 46. The brooch appears to be plain and is missing its spring and catchplate, despite damage to its wings and some pitting, has a good surface patina. The wings are short and their edges have worn away. The bow is plain and has a semi-circular section and tapers to a point.It is 39mm long, 16mm wide and 12mm thick. The brooch is in fair condition with a green patina and weighs 7.14grams.

The object is 'cross' shaped and has a sub rectangular section. In its centre it is decorated with two sets of two raised lines which form a diagonally placed cross. One of the short arms is divided at its end and is folded over (and riveted?) to form a double loop. This forms a hinge or perhaps holds a suspension bar. The object is worn and incomplete.
