Late Iron age copper alloy sword scabbard fitting, 54mm in length, 17mm wide and 5mm thick with a weight of 21.71grams.
The object is a scabbard mouth fitting which would sit at the upper edge of the scabbard and strengthen the opening. It consists of a rectangular cross sectioned ovoid frame which has a plain triangular projection in the centre of each side. These would sit facing downwards. The other surface, pointing upwards, has a tapering depression at each end of the ovoid opening, which would help to guide a sword blade into the opening. This example is very similar to YORYM…
