It is made from a dark brown flint and has been invasively re-touched and then polished at the blade. It has been finely worked along its blade and on one face of one side with shallow, stepped re touch. The other side less so and appears to have been damaged along this edge due to a weakness in the flint?

It is produced from a fine grained brown/green stone. It is unfacetted and has a rounded surface which terminates in a very faint ridge down each side, giving it a pointed oval cross-section. It has a gently rounded blade which is intact and still crisp. The axe appears to be Group VI volcanic tuff, probably making it a product of the Langdale axe factory.

Incomplete Neolithic polished stone axe, consisting of about two-thirds of a whole axe, but missing its blade end, suggesting it was broken while in use. The axe is probably of Langdale (or Charnwood?) slate and has a pale green/grey colouring with a diagonal white stripe near the rounded butt. It has irregular faceted edges with one surface having a flattened irregular shaped area. The fragment is 85mm long, 44mm wide and 26mm thick. It is in good condition and weighs 114g.

It has a flat butt end and its sides are slightly waisted and splay towards a rounded tip. It is quite thick in section in the area towards its centre and near to the blade end.
