Roman silver Denarii hoard, 18 coins dating from 32BC - 129AD. Photos are attached A (top) to P (bottom).
Circumstances of Discovery
The coins were found by 13 individuals over a weekend long 'club dig' on 28th and 29th October 2017. They were not initially reported as potential Treasure as the finders believed they were probably site finds. The coins were subsequently reported to Wendy Scott (FLO), who concluded that as the coins are all silver denarii and with no evidence for Roman occupation in the immediate vicinity, which is unusual in Leicestershire, they probably constitute…

A fused lump of at least 10 (possibly 13?) Post Medieval silver coins, probably all shillings of Charles I. The lump measures 43mm x 42mm with a thickness of 14mm and weighs 48.93grams. The coins are mostly incomplete and have been fused together, probably by intense heat.
One of the coins visible at the top of the lump is partially intact, is 30mm diameter and shows a crest in an oval border. The coin below this shows the partial inscription CAROL. On the opposite side a Crown (1635-6 or 1648-9?) mint mark can be seen following REX.

Medieval silver and gold coin hoard 1272-1361
2005 T48 report
The coins can be summarised as follows: 1 gold noble, 3 silver groats, 4 silver halfgroats, 4 silver pennies, 1 silver halfpenny. Most coins are of Edward III (1327-1377), apart from the four pennies, which are issues of his predecessors Edward I and II (1272-1327). The great bulk of the issues belong to Edward III, 4th coinage, pre-treaty period (1351-1361), and the concealment date of the hoard needs to be located in the later part of that decade, notwithstanding the uncertainty surrounding the precise identity of …

29 silver denarii and 3 bronze coins were found in the parish of Cadeby, Leicestershire. The coins were found in an area which has many known Roman features including a road and settlement. The earliest coin dates from the first year of the reign of Vespasian (AD 69-70), while the latest are the three issues of Faustina II, wife of Marcus Aurelius. The hoard was probably deposited late in the reign of Marcus Aurelius.

The find is a stack of five coins, fused together as a result of corrosion in the ground. There is no evidence to suggest the application of heat as a factor in the fusion. The coins are neatly aligned, perhaps suggesting that they originally formed part of a rouleau for transportation or storage, as is known from some other examples. As a result of the stacking, only the two outer faces are visible and can be identified, but the similarity in size suggests that the remaining three coins are of the same or similar types.
Both of the visible coins are French deniers. The clearer o…
