This is a coin of British Association, struck in Rome for issue in Britain - 39 specimens were found in the Sacred Spring in Bath (As Walker, 1988: p. 291, nos. 1-39, pl. XXXI).

A worn and pierced copper-alloy Roman sestertius of Antonine or Severan date, possibly of Marcus Aurelius (AD 161-180), although perhaps Septimius Severus (AD 193-211), dating to the period c.AD 161-211. Unclear reverse type possibly depicting a standing figure? Probably mint of Rome. The coin has been pierced, with a circular hole close to the edge of the flan above the bust when viewed from the obverse. Record via e-mail, not seen in person.
