Its central hole, is 11mm in diameter. It has no other decoration. The form is unusual but overall the whorl fits Walton Rogers form A1, which she dates to 500-1000AD.

The form of this whorl allows it to be placed in Walton Rogers Type B2 (2007, 232-6) which she saw as dating from the Iron Age through into the seventh century

The weight is domed in cross section and circular in form. it has a conical recess which begins with a small circular hole in the upper surface and ends as a large hole the underside. It has a lipped edge and may be decorated with incised lines, though its hard to be certain.

Early Medieval? stone spindle whorl fragment, 27mm in diameter long and 21mm wide and weighs 9.52 grams.. The object is circular in form (incomplete) and sub circular in cross section. It has a pale yellow/grey patina and is probably made from sand or lime stone. What remains of the central hole is 10mm wide. Its form is an elongated version of Walton Rogers form B, though it is slightly narrower on one edge than the other so could fit form A2. It is most similar to eg.2545, fig.9.3 p.284 in Evans D.H. and Loveluck, C. 'life and economy at Early Medieval Flixborough'
