Early Medieval Anglo-Saxon copper alloy mount. 7mm thick and 28mm in diameter with a weight of 8.09grams. This area is formed of three concentric ridges, the outer two are beaded, the inner is plain. Early Medieval copper alloy brooch fragment, 34mm long 12mm wide and 4mm thick with a weight of 5.72g. The object is rectangular in form and cross section and forms the upper part of the bow of a cruciform or small long brooch and consists of one half which is plain and has a bowed form with a rounded upper surface. The second half is flat and rectangular with slight traces of probable lappets to each side. The reverse of this houses a centrally placed, sub rectangular catch plate.

Early Medieval to Medieval Stamford ware sherd, 49mm long, 46mm wide and 8mm thick with a weight of 23g. The object is sub rectangular in form and cross section. It has a pale cream/brown patina and finely grained fabric with small grit inclusions. Its outer surface has trace sof pale greenish translucent glaze. It forms part of the base and side of a vessel. Its underside in concave and its sides shows linear ridges internally.

It has a flat upper edge which has an incised circle. There is a possible ring in dot decoration showing on one or two of the sides . The head tapers into a circular sectioned shaft which is mostly missing.

Early medieval copper-alloy brooch fragment. Length: 34 mm, width: 20 mm, thickness: 4 mm, weight: 6.21 g. The object comprises the incomplete headplate only, and is probably from a cruciform brooch. The headplate is flat and rectangular, and missing most of its edge; it is decorated with five (two incomplete) ring-and-dot motifs, one centrally placed and the others in each corner. There is no evidence for any wings. At one edge of the headplate is a centrally placed top knob cast in one with the headplate. The whorl matches Wlaton Rogers Form B, which she dates to 900-1200AD, though the small internal hole fits an Iron age or Roman profiel of 4-8mm.

It is U shaped in form and rectangular in cross section. The upright portion (left in photo) is the lower part of the central shaft with the right side of the base and most of the right (as shown) projection. The object is worn and is decorated on one face with two lines of decoration, forming a border, consisting of a row of incised dashes next to a row of sub circuar stamps.

See LEIC-07629A, NCL-FBC856 and SWYOR-13C8D1 Similar sized and shaped objects but made from chalk were recovered from Anglo-Scandinavian building contexts in York and have been identified as Hnefatafl pieces (Mainman and Rodgers, 2000). Height: 14 mm, diameter: 19 mm, diameter at upper edge 13 mm, weight: 23.84 g.
