Iron age copper alloy escutcheon plate, probably from a cauldron? Length 50mm, width 31mm thickness 1.5mm, weight 42.31grams. The object would have been used to secure a handle to a vessel, proabblay a cauldron. It is rectangular in form and D shaped in cross -section. It has a central curved section, 22mm deep, which has a raised lip, 5mm high, rising up at each edge and a rounded, raised 'ridge' running down its centre. Two Iron Age, Iron and copper alloy hemispherical vessels, probably cauldrons. Recovered (on the advice of English Heritage) during an archaeological evaluation undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology Ltd. Description - At least two vessels of very similar form but of different sizes. In addition, running beneath the larger bowl is a large iron object with a rounded terminal.
