A late early-medieval copper alloy mount 28mm long, 27mm wide and 6mm thick. The object is in fair condition with a brown patina and weighs 7.11 grams. The object is in the form of an animal head, perhaps a lion. It has two semi-spherical eyes set each side of a raised 'snout'. Above this are two rounded ears. The object is surrounded by four sub circular protrusions each with a circular hole for fixing. The animal head is comparable to that found on stirrup-strap mounts of Williams's Class B for which an 11th-century date has been suggested. A similar date is suggested for this object.

Early Medieval copper alloy, iron and gold mount, 23mm long, 21mm wide and 1.5mm thick. The object is in fair condition with a green patina and weighs 2.02grams. The object consists of a flat cruciform plate which has four flat outer edges. At least one of these has an irregular broken edge, which suggests the object was originally part of a larger object. each 'arm' of the object is joined to the next with a pronounced curve (the object looks like a rectangle with four incomplete circles removed from it to form a cross). The outer edge of the object has a raised border which contains…

Early Medieval or Medieval? copper alloy mount 30mm long, 5mm wide and 4mm thick. The object is in good condition and weighs 1.92grams. The object is rectangular in form and circular in section. It is hollow with a slit opening running its length. Its surface is decorated with a series of raised bands grouped into 10's. This is seperated by a plain section with 8 bands following, suggesting that the object has been interupted here. The object is some sort of banding, designed to sit on the edge of a narrow sheeting of some sort.

Early medieval copper alloy mount, probably from the tip of a drinking horn. The object is in the form of a curved cone with an open tip and is decorated to resemble a serpent-like beast. The object has two trapezoidal 'boxes' formed by a single incised border, with one corner pointing towards the front of the object. These are designed to represent eyes and in the centre of each is a small circular hollow, probably to hold glass 'pupils'. In between these on what would be the head of the beast is a faint area of interlaced decoration or cross hatching. The edge of this section merges…

Early medieval (Anglo-Scandinavian) copper alloy mount, possibly part of a strap union, 25mm long, 24mm wide and 3mm thick. The object is in fair condition with a brown patina and weighs 6.24grams. The object is triangular in form and has a bowed rectangular section. It has a central circular hole which has a raised border around it. This is flanked by three smaller circular holes which are either part of the decoration or are fixing holes. In each corner there is a small raised area. Although very worn, the decoration suggests a Borre style piece. The raised areas in each corner coul…

Early Anglo-Saxon gilded copper alloy belt or harness mount, 20mm long, 8mm wide and 5mm thick. The object is in fair condition and weighs 1.71g. It is S-shaped, rectangular in cross-section and has a circular-sectioned integrally cast rivet emerging from each end of its underside. The upper surface has terminals which may be intended as animal heads, as they have faint incised decoration; the recessed areas of these terminals are heavily gilded. This object is similar to 6th-century mounts from Suffolk, featured in West 1998, one of which was silvered. S-shaped brooches of the l…

Fragment of a gilded copper-alloy mount, sub-triangular and flat, with one definite straight edge (formed of a slight step) which forms the shortest edge. A second edge has semi-circular cut-outs running along its length, and this suggests a broken edge which orginally contained circular holes. The third edge appears to be original and co-incides with relief decoration. This is formed from a raised area with a central band of rope-like decoration which contains traces of gilding. This decoration runs along the object's edge and it widens in the centre where it also curves around a cir…
