Neolithic flint polished axe fragment, 77mm long, 52mm wide and 26mm thick. The object is in fair condition with a greyish internal patina and weighs 130grams.The object represents about half of a polished flint axe. The axe is quite damaged around its edges, but part of the blade is present.

Neolithic stone axe, 59mm long, 44mm at its widest point and 17mm thick with a weight of 102grams. The axe is incomplete and is made from Jadeitite. In plan one side is slightly convex while the other side is fairly straight, with slight facets. The blade is fairly straight and symmetrical and the body has traces fo polishing on each face. Following spectroradiometry by members of the project JADE team in France it was concluded that the axe belongged to the Chelles type and the source of the rock was Northern Italy. only around 120 Alpine axes have been found in Britain and Ire…

Neolithic flint axe, 121mm long, 47mm wide and 26mm thick. The axe is in fair condition with some damage to each end and weighs 179 grams. The axe is made from a greyish beige flint and has been polished all over its surface. It is sub rectangular in form and section and has flat edges. It expands gently in width and depth towards the steeply curved blade, which is mostly missing. It is also missing its butt end.

Fragment of a Neolithic slate axe, 66mm long, 54mm wide, 16mm thick and weighs 71.98g. The axe is sub rectangular in form and cross section. It has a very fragmented, damaged surface and was possibly broken during manufacure? It has a rounded, polished blade which is mostly intact, but all other surfaces are damaged. The object is a pale green/blue colour which may suggest Charnwood slate.

Late Neolithic polished stone axe, 99mm long, 64mm wide and 26mm thick with a weight of 202g. The axe is mostly complete, missing its hafted end, but has also sustained a lot of damage aroud its edges. It is sub rectangular in form and eliptical in cross section. It has a pronounced rounded step just before it drops down to form a blade on one face. It has no obvious facets and is a dark grey/brown, suggesting Charnwood slate.

Mid to late Neolithic polished flint hand axe. The axe has a sub rectangular form and an oval cross section and is missing its butt and blade. It tapers in width towards the butt, with a swollen central section and then flattens and widens towards the blade. It has chamferred, flattened edges. Its remaining surface has been ground and polished. The material is probably Charnwood flint, given its beige-brown colouration. Length: 119 mm, width: 62 mm, thickness: 26 mm, weight: 233 g.

Neolithic polished stone axe fragment, 51mm long, 44mm wide and 14mm thick with a weight of 37.47grams. The fragment represents part of the blade end of an axe, but is very damaged with little original surface remaining. It has part of the curved blade which merges into the adjoining facetted edge, which has a thin angular face butting up to the rounded surface. The axe appears to be Langdale slate (fine grained tuff), so it could be part of a group VI axe.

Medieval or post medieval miniature lead axe, 22 mm long, and 15 mm wide, with a weight of 2.96g, The object is roughly cast and has part of a circular cross sectioned hollow shaft which has a small rectangular projection to one side and a triangular flared head with a curved blade at the other. It is very similar to WMID-AF5FD1, which notes In "Pilgrim Souvenirs and Secular Badges", Spencer (1998, p. 301) comments that a: "...popular group of badges highlighted weapons and other items of military equipment. Bronze age copper alloy axe blade fragment, 27mm in length, 14mm wide and 6mm thick with a weight of 3.14g. The object is sub triangular in form and cross section and consists of a corner of a blade of a probable socketed axe. It has a slightly curved and damaged blade, 1mm thick at its tip. The fragment then widens out and is solid, but in a very damaged state. It was found in the same location as other prehistoric metal fragments (see LEIC-544574 and LEIC-54F15A) suggesting it may have been gathered for re-working?

Late Neolithic- early Bronze age stone axe hammer, 107mm long, 84mm wide and 55mm thick. The object is in good condition and weighs 651grams. The object is ovoid in form and rectangular in section (with one edge being slightly bowed), with a circular hole, 27mm in diameter, cut through the centre of its ovoid face. It has slightly polished surfaces around its pointed tip, suggesting some wear.

Neolithic polished stone axe. It is 124mm long and 45mm at its widest part. It is a Langdale type 6 with squared edges and has a diagonally striped grain in the stone. The axe is 22mm wide at its narrowest and widens out to 45mm. It has a sharp dipped angle on one surface, just before its broken edge, here it has a thickness of 22mm. It has two breaking points suggesting it was damaged in the plough soil.

Early Neolithic stone axehead, 72mm long, 43mm wide and 20mm thick. The object is in good condition with a weight of 89.366grams. The axe is complete except for a chip on one side near its butt end. It is produced from a fine grained brown/green stone. It is unfacetted and has a rounded surface which terminates in a very faint ridge down each side, giving it a pointed oval cross-section. It has a gently rounded blade which is intact and still crisp. The axe appears to be Group VI volcanic tuff, probably making it a product of the Langdale axe factory.

This has a circular hole running through its centre and where it joins the blade it steps deeply. The object has been roughly cast and has scratches across its surface.

Neolithic stone axehead, 139mm long, 50mm wide and 37mm thick. The object is complete and in good condition and weighs 374grams. The axe has a triangular form and an eliptical section and is made from a form of fine granite. The butt end tapers gently to a rouned apex and the whole surface is gently rounded. At one side of the blade there is a trace of a facet and the blade itself is intact and finely worked. Around the blade is considerable poloishing, slightly more on one surface than the other.
